83 Days in Okinawa: Nixa WWII veteran tells story of survival.

 “Congratulations, you’ve been selected for the U.S. military.”

John Ruston still has the letter from President Franklin Roosevelt somewhere. It was 74 years ago, but he still remembers that day vividly. It’s funny, the Nixa resident says, sometimes he can’t remember what he had for lunch yesterday, but when it comes to the war, he remembers everything — down to the smallest detail.

You just don’t forget those kind of things, no matter how many years go by.
